Construction Plant Training

Construction Plant Operator Training Options
DLT Training Ltd are accredited to carry out Construction Plant Operator Training in conjunction with a number of Accrediting Bodies Card Schemes:

Option 1 – CPCS Plant Operator Card
CPCS stands for the Construction Plant Competence Scheme – a card scheme to prove the skills of plant operators. This is the card scheme issued by Construction Skills (who used to be CITB). It is based on a combination of professional competence and health
and safety awareness – two essential qualities for operating plant. To work towards gaining a RED – TRAINED OPERATOR CARD which will be valid for 2 YEARS.

Operators will be required to:-

• Pass the ConstructionSkills Health and Safety Test before any testing begins (if not passed in last 2 years).
• Carry out any training necessary to bring the operator up to the standard required to pass the CPCS Technical Test. This training will be tailored to meet individual requirements and based on a CPCS training syllabus.
• Pass the CPCS Theory Test – The CPCS Theory Test is carried out verbally with the candidate and recorded using audio equipment. There are usually between 60 and 70 questions per equipment category which have to be learnt by the candidate in preparation for the test. The maximum duration for the theory test is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
• Pass the CPCS Practical Test – The maximum duration for the Practical Test varies according to the Category of Plant Equipment being tested on. All practical tests must be carried out at a CPCS Construction Plant Test Centre (with the exception of Category A16 Counterbalanced Lift Truck)

Under the new CPCS Scheme, Theory & Practical Tests are carried out on independent days set aside from training schedules. All candidates will be assessed and profiled upon commencement of their training course to ensure that they are attending the correct duration for their experience. If the candidate is found to have booked an incorrect duration, the day’s training will be charged to the customer, and course dates will have to be rearranged for the correct duration. Upon gaining the Red Trained Operator Card you will notice that the card is only valid for 2 years. In order to progress from a Red Trained Operator card to a Blue Competent Operator card An Operator is required to:

• Pass the relevant NVQ Diploma or Certificate for Constuction Plant Operation with the unit appropriate to the category of plant required, within the 2 year life of the card. Please Click Here to find out further information on the NVQ process.
When carrying out CPCS Testing strict rules are applicable and all CPCS Tests must be notified 3 working days in advance.

Option 2 – NPORS Plant Operator Card – National Plant Operator Registration Scheme
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recognise NPORS as a competent organisation to accredit, monitor and train Instructors/Training Providers to deliver Operator training and testing. Recognition by the HSE is intended to help set and maintain professional training standards, helping employers select the training organisations who offer a good standard of training. When we carry out training accredited under the NPORS scheme, there are two options available to our customers when certificating their operators. These are:-

1. For Use on Construction Sites
• Candidates need to complete training/achievement test on the chosen category of plant equipment(s)
• And pass the CSCS Site Operative Health & Safety Touch-Screen Test

2. For Industrial Use Only (Not valid on Construction Sites)
• Candidates need to complete training/achievement test on the chosen category of plant equipment
For both options operators will receive a NPORS plant operator card, which is Nationally Accredited and will be valid for 5 years. NPORS accredited Plant Operator Training can either be carried out at DLT Training Ltd, or at Customer Premises

Option 3 – In House H&S Plant Operator Card
This type of training covers the employers responsibility to provide adequate training for employees on Mobile Plant Equipment, but only gives the operator a card to use within that company
