ADR Training (Driver training for Carrying Dangerous Goods)
What is ADR Training?
ADR is the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). ADR Training is legally required for carrying anything that is deemed to be ‘dangerous goods’. DLT Training are an experienced ADR Training provider with a good reputation across the South Wales region.
Regulations under the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (CDG) 2009 require that the operator of any motor vehicle which is engaged in the carriage of dangerous goods shall ensure that the driver of the vehicle has received adequate instruction and training to enable them to understand:-
• The nature of the danger to which particular dangerous goods may give rise, and the action to be taken in an emergency
• Their duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
This requires the driver to attend an approved course of training and successfully complete examinations that will provide a Vocational Training Certificate, better known as an ADR Certificate.
DLT Training’s ADR courses consist of the following elements:-

The Core module covers information on National and International Regulations, Operations and Emergency Situations when transporting Dangerous Goods
ADR Training Packages
The ADR Training Packages module provides the delegate with information on the Regulations, Loading and Unloading Procedures for the different categories of packaging that are used for the transportation of Dangerous Goods
What are the ADR Classes?
Each driver must know the warning signs and emergency information about each of the classes of Dangerous Goods that they transport. The Different Classes are:-
ADR Class 1 – Explosives
ADR Class 2 – Gases
ADR Class 3 – Flammable Liquids

Initial ADR Training
Initial Training is carried out for all new applicants who need to gain an ADR Certificate, or candidates who’s existing ADR Certificates have expired or are due to expire within the next 5 weeks.
The course is run over a 5-day period, which consists of Core, Packages, Classes Common Characteristics and Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 9 over the first three days, then the Tankers Specialism module over days four and five.
Our ADR Initial Training is accredited to count towards the Driver CPC Qualification, so if a candidate attends the full 5-day ADR Initial programme, they would be able to gain 14 hours towards their Driver CPC. However, if they only attend a 3-day Initial Programme for the Core Packages and 7 Classes, or just the Tankers module, then there would be no hours gained towards the Driver CPC.
What if I only need refresher ADR Training?
ADR Refresher Training can only be carried out for candidates who have more than 5 weeks remaining on their existing ADR Certificate before it expires. Candidates are only able to refresh whatever categories are on their existing ADR Certificate.
If a candidate wishes to add categories to an existing ADR Certificate, they must attend Initial Training and Examinations for those additional categories.
Our ADR Refresher Training is accredited to count towards the Driver CPC Qualification, so if a candidate attends the 3-day ADR Refresher programme, they would be able to gain 7 hours towards their Driver CPC. There would be an extra charge for the Driver CPC Registration Fees.
Refresher Training is carried out for all applicants who need to refresh an ADR Certificate. The ADR Certificate can only be refreshed any time from 4 years after the date of issue until 5 weeks prior to the certificate expiring. A candidate will not be able carry out refresher training within the last 5 weeks prior to the certificate expiring. An Initial course will need to be attended.
The course is run over a 3-day period, which consists of Core, Packages, Classes Common Characteristics and Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 9 and the Tankers Specialism. Candidates will only need to attend the training for the categories that are already on their existing ADR Certificate
